Happy New Year lovelies!!!!
Hands up if you've ever done a bit of a Bridget Jones and gone all out on a fitness regime only to 'fall off the wagon' after a few weeks? It's so common, I think pretty much every single person who has attempted to do it has ended up in the exact same place!
Moral of the story is: we try to do too much at once!
How about changing one thing at a time and building up, small changes create a big change.
For example, if you do little to no exercise right now, try and do something say, twice a week to begin with, it can be as simple as a 10 minute jog; the NHS's couch to 5k app is great if you fancy getting into running. If jogging isn't for you try something else, I go on about it all the time but you ENJOYING what you're doing is by far THE MOST important thing, as it becomes effortless to add it into your weekly routine however make sure you start small, you don't need to be doing it 5 times a week immediately, you are welcome to try but I'll bet you find it hard to stick to.
Another example: if you want to cut down on unhealthy foods, I don't advise going cold turkey, just try to reduce them over time. You could change 2 meals a week to start with and then work to tip the balance so that most of your snacks and meals are healthy with the odd unhealthy one.
A friend of mine was telling me about a diet that was so restrictive she couldn't even have a slice of cake at a birthday party, I'm telling you now if it had been me or a client had asked me if they could I'd have said 'eat the damn cake!!' it's crazy, how on earth is something that intense sustainable?
The more we deprive ourselves of something, typically the more we want it!
My whole point is that it's about changing your habits and building new, positive and (most importantly) sustainable ones. This is not something that happens overnight, it takes time and patience but also balance. How many times have we heard that too much of anything is bad for us? It's a bit of a cliché but so true! I'm here to advocate a healthy, balanced relationship with food and exercise.
I'd like to propose something for 2022: how about making it the year of YOU? Make this the year to create small changes, mounting up to that one big change. I know here I'm typically speaking about fitness but it could actually be anything. How wonderful would it be to end the year having a new found confidence and appreciation for yourself?
Fitness isn't just for January, it's for life and I promise, you will never regret finding that balance 🙂💖.

Let's smash 2022!!!! 💪
